With Paolo de Venecia Gile's performance triptych KAYA - everytime the sun comes up, All all all initiates its second exhibition programme Tryouts. In Tryouts, All all all becomes a small theatre that investigates the performative gesture through a series of shows. Gile's three-part performance unfolds as a poetic translation of their interest in and research on internet culture, viral dances, Southeast Asian shamanism, and Nordic mythology. Switching between manifesting room for individuality and community, the artist tries to employ healing through choreography, club culture and folk dance.

Paolo de Venecia Gile is the first artist in residence in All all all’s exhibition programme Tryouts. With Tryouts, All all all becomes a small theatre that investigates the performative gesture through a series of shows developed by each artist during their residency. KAYA – everytime the sun comes up is the title of Venecia de Gile’s project through which they make a transformative installation that evolves across a performance triptych. The three-part performance that unfolds in the triptych poetically translates their interest in and research on internet culture, viral dances, Southeast Asian shamanism, and Nordic mythology. Switching between manifesting spaces of individuality and community, the artist tries to employ healing through choreography, club culture and folk performance. 

Their choreographic experiments, which also involve costume production, scenographic elements, and evocative music, is both a performance and an installation in three sections. Each section has a unique title and is performed separately on three occasions. 

Part 1: day breaks, the chaos flowers delves into the tension between restfulness and hyperproductivity using somatic and modernist dance techniques. The performance features a musical blend of synth, percussive, and wind instruments, accompanied by a scenography that includes an iconic chair, mundane mats, and costume elements made from woven palm leaves, transporting the audience to another realm.

Part 2: where night never reaches, screens melt turns the exhibition space into a hybrid space: a scenographic installation mimicking a production studio for video content, where the artist harvest viral dance material from social media. A video work on display depicts eternally dancing hollowed-out figures and the depersonalised aspects of digital connectivity. The video work is later activated in a live, durational dance performance that translates the same dance content in the exhibition space and its surrounding streets. 

Part 3: escorting the souls of the sole is the final instalment of KAYA – everytime the sun comes up. In this, Venetia de Gile leads a dance of companionship between performer and audience, borrowing techniques from Filipino shamanism, contemporary dance, and Nordic mythology. 

Together, the title of each section forms a poem that weaves stories of migration, transformation, and cultural amnesia. They create a collage of emotive atmospheres.

About the artist:

Paolo de Venecia Gile (b. 1994, Manila) is a Swedish-Filipino artist living in Copenhagen, trained in contemporary dance and choreography. As a dancer, they have appeared in works presented at SAAL Biennale (EE), the Venice Biennale (IT), Roskilde Festival (DK), Meteor Festival (NO), among others. They are a member of Dance Cooperative – a platform and studio for freelance performing artists located in Copenhagen. They are the invited guest curator for the 2025 edition of Det Frie Felts Festival. They usually work in collaboration, inviting audiences into a sensual gymnastics of attention through live performance. Tracing the migration and messy transformation of dance(s) across circumstances is a guiding star in their work. www.paolodeveneciagile.com
